Organic Chia Seeds now available from Raw Feeders
The chia plant is in the mint family and comes in a white chia or black chia variety. Both the chia seeds and the chia plant, or microgreens, are edible and carry a variety of health benefits. Lets take a look at chia health benefits.
Chia seeds are packed with nutrients and naturally boost energy and endurance. In the Mayan culture, chia actually means strength. Chia seeds are rich in omega-3 fatty acids; vitamins A, B, E, and D; minerals, fiber, calcium, and protein, and are a great source of antioxidants.
All these wonderful properties make the chia seed heart-healthy, aids in digestion and bone strength, and even help repair cell damage. This tiny little seed is great for the immune system, joints, eyes, and hair/fur. With all these health benefits of the chia seed, it is one heck of a superfood.
When feeding your dog, cat, or yourself a chia product, you can eat the seeds whole or ground, or soak them in a liquid. If soaking in a liquid, they will form a jelly-like substance. Soaking chia seeds releases more nutrients and allows the seed to be digested better.
These super seeds pack a lot of punch. Use ¼ teaspoon per 10 pounds, 2 teaspoons maximum for large-breed dogs.
